Cleaning your mouth often consists of many steps and tips for a healthy smile. This includes making sure you clean your teeth every day using a highly functional interdental cleaner such as dental floss or a water flosser. If you’re using dental floss, make sure your thread is strong enough to support all the activities for which it is needed.

To help keep your smile safe, it is essential to make sure you’re brushing and flossing your teeth every day. Ideally, you’ll want to floss every day for at least 2 minutes, or for however long it takes you to floss between every single tooth and behind the teeth in the back. Always make sure to take your time and use gentle, soft strokes.

When selecting a dental floss, consider using a single filament thread or similar shred-resistant floss. This ensures that you’ll be able to floss between every tooth without the thread ripping or tearing. In addition, speak with your dentist about product recommendations and suggestions.

Proper flossing techniques ensure that you’re using a strand long enough to floss between each tooth. Ideally, you will want to use a strand that is roughly 18“ in length. To help prevent recontamination, move up and down the strand as needed, but never using the same section more than once. Be sure to floss between each tooth and wash out your mouth after you are done.
